Welcome to February! You find us here in North Devon, awaiting a great storm surge that’s due to be rolling in from across the Atlantic and hitting our shores on Friday – and on this occasion I’m not talking about Mr Trump’s dubious activities across The Pond. So, as our local surfers look out across the horizon in keen anticipation, I’m still wandering our shores, basking in the sunlight that cascades down from the heavens.
People often ask me why so many of my photos have such a vast amount of space in them. Well, it’s simple, for me the answer always lies in the spaces … music is made beautiful by the rests between notes, poetry’s meaning is created by the punctuation between words, life lived in the gaps between breaths and wisdom found in the silence between thoughts.
In the same way, my walks along the shore are made more beautiful by space, the calms between waves, the light showering down from between the clouds and the vast open promise of the beckoning horizon …..it is in this infinite solitude that beauty is nurtured and wisdom felt.
So, would you care to join me for the odd perambulation? A kind of watery David Henry Thoreau amble courtesy of North Devon ? Well, this week I’ll be starting a daily wave wisdom email fresh from our beautiful North Devon shores. It’ll consist of a little image or video along with a wave thought or story to help you on your day. I’ll do my best to send these out most weekdays but forgive me if I go AWOL on the odd occasion – I have the tendency to go walk about sometimes!
If this is something you’re interested in, please sign up to my email list now and I’ll see you on the beach shortly.
In the meantime, in light of all that is happening in the world today, may I offer a little wave wisdom in the shape of a quote from the inspirational Mahatma Gandhi who once said, “You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”
With that, may I just say, please love each other fiercely and keep your hope and dreams alive.
